However, trying to achieve both strength and beauty in the porcelain has always been a challenge for prepless cases due to the fact they have to be so very thin.   Dr. Boulden and Estep pride themselves on being experts on Prepless (or minimal prep) veneers.  Of course, not everyone is a candidate for a complete no-prep veneer, but for those who are it can offer AMAZING aesthetic results.

Atlanta Dental Spa prides ourselves on being Master Cosmetic Dentists working with Master ceramists.  That being said, you might not be a candidate for a complete no-prep (or Prepless) veneer.   It’s okay, there are still options.  Gone are the days when you have to have you’re teeth filed down,  to a to term we commonly here in our consultations as – “nubs” or “posts”.    Our doctors at Atlanta Dental Spa always practice conservative dentistry so we WANT to keep as much healthy tooth structure as possible.  So even if you’re not the perfect candidate for prepless veneers you may be a perfect candidate for other types of veneers. Here are descriptions of veneers:

• No Prep Porcelain Veneers-  This is truly a situation where your teeth are NOT shaved or contoured in any way.  Essentially all we do is take an exact impression of your existing teeth and have our Master Ceramists make paper-thin veneers for your teeth and then chemically bond them to your teeth.    As stated before, this might not be the BEST option for all situations and here’s why –  Imagine if you had teeth that were flared out or bulky in certain portions of the tooth.  No matter how thin we make the porcelain veneers, they are still going to add bulk to those pre-existing flare or bulky areas.   Does that make sense?   This is why in some cases we talk about doing a minimal prep veneers situation (see below).
• Minimal prep veneers:  This is basically where we simply have to make slight modifications to the tooth in order to achieve our goals.  Dr Boulden always explains to patients in consultation, “imagine if certain teeth are flared out, no matter how thin I make the veneer, even 0.1mm, it still will add thickness to that tooth.  So if you will allow me to do ‘selective contouring’ to your teeth (most times without being numb even) we can do a minimal prep case.  You see we don’t want to compromise getting a 100% beautiful result for the fact that we had a little compromise due to not being able to remove even the slightest enamel.”      Makes senses right if you think about it?  The only true way to see if you’re a candidate for No Prep or minimal prep veneers is to come in for a complimentary consultation.
• Traditional veneers:   Even traditional veneers (or a prepped veneer) at Atlanta Dental Spa is truly conservative one.  Dr Estep commonly tells people, ” I want to treat your mouth as if it were my own, so it behooves me to be as conservative as possible.”  She’s right too, because in dentistry, the strongest bonds between porcelain and the tooth structure are when the MOST enamel is left.  Maybe this is why our veneers last so long  ;-)
